Our founder, Akansasira Labour, was one of many vulnerable children in Buhoma, in the Bwindi region of Uganda.
A sponsor changed all that by enabling him to receive the care and education he needed to thrive, sparking a lifelong mission to give back to his community.
In 2021, Akansasira founded Bwindi Children Empowerment Charity, starting with just seven children. Today, we support more than 80 children – and our goal is to help every local child in need.
To transform the lives of orphans and other vulnerable children in Buhoma who are affected by poverty, abuse, violence, disease, and hunger.
A community where children and their caregivers are empowered to improve their own lives through education, shelter, health, and food security.
We provide care for the children who live with us as well as children in the surrounding community who come for meals, guidance, and a sense of belonging. Our founder knows first-hand what a difference this can make – and he’s working to create that same change for others.
Founded in 2021 with just seven orphans under our care, we’re proof that heart and hard work can make all the difference.
